How can you differentiate the normal discharge (and for many of us there is much more than when we are not pregnant) and an amniotic fluid leak? They save that for those times when the perineum (vaginal tissue) won't stretch anymore and really, really, they need to get that baby out. Then they make a gossip and the delivery is usually pretty fast after that. Many women have tears and are usually easy to repair. Most practitioners prefer a tear less than an episiotomy and are very skilled at sewing them. Ask your doctor/half if you routinely do them. If it's pro-episiotomy and it's an idea that you object to (and most of us are), find someone else. It's one of the last decisions that are made in delivery and unfortunately, one in which you won't participate.
