Botox (botulinum toxin A) is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes muscle activity in the treated area. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve engines from releasing a certain chemical that allows the muscle to work, thus relaxing the muscle and avoiding muscle contractions that cause frung lines and wrinkles. The aesthetic result is a smoother skin with fewer lines. Who's Botox right for? For anyone who feels that they are "agitated all the time," or those who are concerned about developing wrinkles, a neuromodulator like Botox can soften and prevent permanent lines from forming. If you already have already existing lines, such as the "angry 11's" between the ravens, or the curved feet by the eyes, Botox can still reduce the depth and in some cases, relax and smooth these wrinkles completely. In addition to treating wrinkles and fine lines, neuromodulators can also be used to treat excessive sweat and correct imperfections in symmetry. By strategically focusing muscles, we can improve facial aesthetics by raising certain areas (such as eyebrows) or lowering others (such as the upper lip, creating a less gominola smile) as well as contouring the facial profile. With techniques such as "micro-Botox", where small quantities are injected into larger areas, other skin conditions such as the size and acne of the enlarged pore can also be improved, especially when combined with other treatments. Is there a time of inactivity? Light redness or needles may be produced at the injection site. Otherwise, there are usually no noticeable side effects after the procedure. Some patients may experience mild bruises, but this can be minimized by following our guidelines and medical instructions. We also have handheld devices that can help reduce bruising. Small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected into specific overactive muscles. This causes localized muscle relaxation, which softens the skin that stands out and reduces wrinkles. The effects of Botox take about two weeks to develop completely and usually last four to six months. It is used for the treatment of hyperhydrosis (increasing sweat in the subarmas, hands and soles), wrinkles in the face and body, and also contouring the face (injection in the mason muscle to create a thinning effect on the lower face). Is there a risk? Potential risks are minimal and the numbing cream is applied 30 minutes before botulinum toxin injection. There may be some bruises. I usually ask patients not to sleep their faces for a massage for a few hours later. I also ask you to avoid entering a sauna or steam bath. But apart from that, there are really not many restrictions on lifestyle. There may be some minor hematomas in certain places, so I usually ask patients to reduce nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and alcohol for a few days before and after a Botox session to prevent that from happening. Then, again, the needles we use for Botox are so good that bruises don't happen often. How much does Botox cost in your clinic? In our clinic, Botox is charged on the basis of the type of indication, such as to treat crow feet or wrinkles in front. We do not change our charges based on the absolute amount used. That is why we always include a contact session for the patient without additional charge, so we can adjust the amount to the best effect. Prices start from $250.
